Silver Cities: The Photography of American Urbanization, 1839-1915 by Peter Bacon Hales
1984 Temple University Press
315 pages and 201 halftones plus fold out panorama of San Francisco

Great book! So much to see and learn about how photographers were part of shaping how we know cities. I especially like the panoramic fold out pages of San Francisco.

As for the condition, the book has never been read.. The book jacket, however, has small tears at the top and bottom.

I also offer free media mail shipping! Upgrades with priority are available for an extra charge.

Here's the blurb:
The photographers of the American city during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were explorers in a cultural frontier and visual documentation. They gave Americans a visual history of their cities. As they preserved, so also they advertised and celebrated change. The book focuses on five large urban centers in America—San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Boston, and New York City.
