Vintage Victorian Sterling Silver Wine Bottle Coaster from the legendary Meriden Britannia Company#491. It weighs 3.8 ounces or 107.7 grams. It measures 1/4" in height and has maximum width of 6".
This lovingly preowned piece is unique and rare in design- a beautiful three tier geometric design. The most prominent design elements are the sculpted or pleated rim, and a series of gentle undulations or waves, creating a terraced look along the edge with five inward points, giving it a refined and ornate appearance.
This piece predates the formation of the International Silver Company(1898) in which the Meriden Britannia Company was one of the founding companies. This beautiful piece is identified with the briefly used Meriden Britannia Eagle with an M, Sterling underscoring the Eagle and the number 491.
Condition: in good condition. Not monogrammed, but faint initials &other ids on back. Minor dings and scratches.
