HISTORY ASPECTS -
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-3 was a crucial variant of one of Nazi Germany’s most capable aircraft of World II. Featuring a BMW 801D-2 radial engine and improved armor and firepower over earlier models, the A-3 offered superior performance at low and medium altitudes. It became a dominant presence on the Western Front in 1942, earning the respect of Allied pilots who encountered it. This aircraft was used extensively by Jagdgeschwader 2 “Richthofen,” one of the Luftwaffe’s most famous wings, in defense of German-occupied territories.
One of the most notable Fw 190A-3 pilots was Hauptmann Hans “Assi” Hahn, Gruppenkommandeur of III./JG 2 “Richthofen.” Stationed at Theville, France in 1942, Hahn was already a celebrated ace with dozens of victories earned on the Eastern Front. He quickly adapted to the fast-paced and brutal air combat over the English Channel. Flying the Fw 190A-3, Hahn led numerous intercept missions against RAF -bomber raids, demonstrating remarkable tactical skill and aerial marksmanship. By the end of his career, he was credited with 108 aerial victories.
The Western Front in 1942 was marked by aggressive British sorties targeting key coastal installations and infrastructure. Under Hahn's leadership, III./JG 2 played a central role in countering these efforts. The Fw 190A-3 proved ideal for hit-and-run tactics, climbing quickly to meet incoming raids and executing devastating firepower s. Hahn’s aircraft, often decorated with distinctive markings, became symbolic of the Luftwaffe’s defense of Western Europe at a time when the Allies were steadily increasing pressure from the air.
This 1 - 72 scale model with historically accurate markings, cockpit detailing, and an authentic camouflage finish from Theville, 1942, this replica is an essential piece for collectors of WWII aviation history and anyone fascinated by elite pilots and their machines.
