Indi Commandos Kerala – is it a Total Sale?

Kochi IPL Team christened their team name as Indi Commandos. Soon with protests from fans the name was changed to Indi Commandos Kerala. If information has to be true , its a total sell out of the name. From the twitter conversations there is likelihood that Tata “IndiCom” could be a major sponsor of the Kochi Team. So they have use Indi Commandos as the team name. This is just a speculation and there is no evidence to support this.

If its true then i am just waiting to see how the Social Media would respond to the total Sale of name which was won for a bid amount of over 1500 crore.

The Kochi ipl team aka indi commandos seems to be  purely business minded and trying to spin money on all possible fronts. In the process they forgot that a good name matters a lot to the thousands of fans out their without their support no brand can be built.

This is a video showing how ITC bingo used a innovative promotion campaign using the Indian Railways public addressing system. They used the same style of announcing train arrival/departure to tell people that bingo has now 25% extra in the packet.

Note: I could not really find out whether they did this type of Promotion method. But surely they did try and reach a lot of people in Social Media by means of this video and letting people know of the ‘extra %’.

About 93% of the customers give importance to Visual appearance while purhcasing a product and Color will increase Brand recognition by around 80%.

Evan Carmichael came up with an excellent infographic explaints the Top reasons why we should partner with someone. It’s indeed quite true that if you have a partner you can always motivate each other and achieve goals.

I thought the overhead of selling Cars in a groupon like website is more, but i was proved wrong by Chinese groupon based website Taobao. They Sold 205 Benz cars in 3.5 hours.  Simply Amazing!

This is quite interesting when it comes to the fact that most of the group buying sites does not put high end products as Deals. It has now opened a completely new market for High End Group buying.

Volkswagen Speaking Advertisement in Times of India

Today(Sept 21st 2010) Times of India and Hindu Newspapers generated some fear, anxiety, amusement etc as People started opening their newspapers. A strange sound started coming, some people where searching for the source of the sound while others just got scared. Volkswagen India has started a new media innovation with Talking newspaper advertisements.  The back page of the newspaper carried an advertisement of their new luxury sedan, Vento. The Back page ad on the side was fitted with a black box which when light falls on it starts speaking about the car.

The Black box was considered as  ”BOMB” by some readers and they threw the paper out,while others just played around with the newspaper.

What would be the cost?

The estimated cost of this ad is around Indian Rupee symbol.svg 6 Crore (source) considering that the black box costs around Rs 5 and the ad was targeted on 25 lakh readers of Times of India and Hindu put together. But a quick calculation says that it would be anywhere between 10 to 12 crores.

Its quite pretty unsure why Volkswagen wanted to do a mass marketing like this for a Luxury segment car.

Reasons can be

  • To create Brand Awareness and to enter into all segments in the coming years.
  • Mass Marketing, Even 1 % conversion would mean recovering the cost
  • Global Player – 6 crores is not big money!!
  • The Media hype this sort of advertisement would generate online and offline, the number of conversations online(blogs,tweets etc)

Mobile Marketing – The size of the market

Mobile Marketing is the next major thing and iStrategy has come up with an infographic showing the vast size of the mobile market.

Its interesting that there is no statistics for India in the graph above by iStrategy. In the Vodafone’s Paper “India: Impact of Mobile Phones” talks about the penetration of Mobile Phones in India.
