What Happens if Twitter acquires Tweet Deck?

Posted by Adheeth On April - 19 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

The latest buzz in Social Media Space is that twitter is reportedly looking to buy Tweet Deck for $US 50 Million. Though there are many reasons on the web as to why twitter wants to acquire tweet deck, I just want to evaluate what would happen if twitter acquires tweet deck. In case of such an acquisition, Idont see a possiblity of twitter closing down Tweet deck. They would rather continue to use Tweet deck and rather re-christen (probably to twitter) the software in the very next update after an acquisition.

Twitter Tweet Deck Logo

Facts and Numbers for Acquistion

  • Tweet Deck has 10% of twitter’s 200 million user base. This 10% users of Tweet Deck are opinion leaders, powerful bloggers, social media marketers and twitter’s top users.
  • Uber Media also has 10% of twitter userbase through UberSocial, Twidroyd, Echofon and UberCurrent.

Why Twitter will retain Tweet Deck if acquired

  • To retain the 10% top twitter users
  • To leverage the expertise of Tweet Deck in desktop application and Social Media Tracking.

India can now Switch Off the Internet

Posted by Adheeth On March - 24 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

The Indian government now has the super power to switch off internet. They have the power to switch off during times of national emergency to

  • Protect Sovereignty and Integrity
  • Defense
  • Security of its States
  • For Public Order

This has been incorporated as a provision in the IT Act of 2008. India presently has 70 million internet users and it’s growing at the rate of 25% per year (read Mobile only internet in India).

It’s good to have a provision like this in the IT Act, as now with millions of internet users and user generated news from social media websites like twitter spreading rumors ( Abdul Kalam Death Rumour in Twitter) creating panic, confusion and tension, during times of emergency a switch off is definitely necessary. The only thing is the respective Political Parties in Power should not misuse this provision to stop the free flow of information against corrupt governments and other protests which are democratic in nature. I do not support a complete shutdown, ppl still should be given access to necessary internet services like newspaper websites, mail etc. There should be provision to stop sending bulk emails and SMS.

Top Ten Dailies (Newspapers) in India

Posted by Adheeth On March - 19 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Here is a snapshot of Indian Readership Survey TOP Findings.

Top 10 Newspapers in India : IRS Q4 2010

About methodology

Average Issue Readership (AIR) of a publication is defined as the number of readers of that publication who have claimed to have last read it within its periodicity – i.e. last read a daily yesterday, a weekly within the last week, a monthly within the last month, etc.

This measure is considered to be a more relevant measure of ‘real’ or ‘regular’ readership, especially for newspapers, most of which have been read / ‘consumed’ as matter of daily habit. Conventionally, media planners even calculate & compare cost-benefits of dailies based on the AIR figure. And hence it is perhaps most relevant to study readership trends as well in terms of AIR.
